Houkuang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Du Benming et al. (1991) erected the Houkuang Formation in the Houkuang Village of Hexiguoxiang, Jiaozhou City. The type locality is in the Houkuang section of Hexiguoxiang (119°55', 36°05').
Lithology and Thickness
Jiaolai Basin. The Houkuang Formation belongs to the 1st eruptive beds of the Qingshan volcanism. It is mostly composed of rhyolitic tuff, rhyolitic breccia tuff, rhyolitic volcanic breccias, rhyolitic breccias lava, with intercalations locally of basaltic trachyandesite, conglomerates and sandstones. The formation is 48.1 m-391.5 m in thickness.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It contacts with the underlying Longwangzhuang Fm unconformably.
Upper contact
It contacts with the overlying Bamudi Fm conformably
Regional extent
The formation occurs in the Laiyang and Zhucheng areas.
